Debian – Search possible installation packages

If you ever have to install a package on debian but not quite sure what the name might be – try out the apt-cache command. e.g. I was looking for some SOAP libraries for python. I used the following command to get a list of packages and libraries that I could download:

apt-cache search python.*soap

You would see similar results on screen based on your criteria

python-coherence - Python UPnP framework
python-4suite-xml - An open-source platform for XML and RDF processing
python-debianbts - Python interface to Debian's Bug Tracking System
python-soaplib - Python library for writing and calling soap web services
python-soappy - SOAP Support for Python
python-suds - Lightweight SOAP client for Python
python-vatnumber - Python module to validate VAT numbers
python-zsi - Zolera Soap Infrastructure
